Delta Pi (ΔΠ) Sorority is based at York University in Toronto, Canada It is a local sorority in Toronto, which any female student in a post secondary program within Toronto may join. Delta Pi places a strong emphasis on sisterhood, Judaism, and philanthropy. Although the sorority is historically Jewish, Delta Pi consists of members of various faiths and backgrounds. History Delta Pi was originally a sister program of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity at York University. Delta Pi was founded by seven women, on November 2, 1989 while on a road-trip to Eastern Michigan University. Delta Pi is officially affiliated with AEΠ at York University, and the University of Toronto which is signified by the “Π” in its name. Prior to 1989, being a member of a fraternity or a sorority at York University was banned; however, currently, York University has lifted the ban but will not give a fraternity or sorority official status. Philanthropy Philanthropy is a very important aspect of the Greek life. Delta Pi supports in raising funds and awareness for cancer research. Delta Pi puts much of their effort in to various charities which include Toronto's annual CIBC Run For The Cure, food banks etc. Delta Pi holds two annual events, both aiding Princess Margaret Hospital and breast cancer research : Ribbons and Roses Live Auction and Sweetest Sin Party. With these two events, Delta Pi has raised over $30 000 for Princess Margaret Hospital.
