Deceiver.com is a nonpartisan blog, hosted by WordPress and operated by three purported journalists who use pseudonyms to report on the hypocrisy of politicos, celebrities, and organizations. Popular targets include spokespeople of PETA, Al Gore, Barack Obama and, recently, the "Octomom" story. The site provides links, pictures, and video clips related to their stories and is home to an active community of regular commenters. Stories are gleaned from news sources as well as from tips received by e-mail from site visitors. Posters The three posters of Deceiver.com maintain complete anonymity, posting under assumed names on a variety of topics and maintaining political nonpartisanship. Although not limited to their particular area, the posters generally blog as follows: * Holly Won't--Fashion watcher and all-around thorn in the side of the glitterati * Simon Scowl--Political flashbulb chaser and pop culture critic * The Oversneer--Activist truth-detector and international gadfly Stats As of August 2008, Deceiver.com had received 2.5 million hits from just over one million unique visitors. On February 18, 2008, the site received over 20,000 hits. Coverage of the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter Affair The blog was mentioned briefly by Mickey Kaus in Slate magazine, prior to John Edwards' August 2008 admission to an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker working with his presidential campaign. The August 25, 2008, issue of People also cited Deceiver's documentation of Hunter's blog which disappeared from the internet by the time the story broke. Other recognition Interviews with American Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard contradicting her anti-fur ad campaign with PETA also first surfaced on the blog in August 2008.
