Debatepedia is a wiki encyclopedia of debates, arguments, evidence, and the relevant positions of actors. It allows for any debate on local to international affairs as long as the debate can be qualified as a substantive "public debate". It is a project of the International Debate Education Association and funded by the Open Society Institute. It enforces rules of "sober-language", "fair and balanced presentation of arguments", and various referencing rules. All debate pages on Debatepedia begin with a "yes/no" question, a proposition, or a resolution. Pro and con arguments for and against the question/proposition/resolution are presented on the left and right hand side of the screen respectively in a "splitscreen" format. Main questions are broken down by subquestions, which act to organize the pro and con columns into more structured sub-debate sections. Debatepedia also allows users to make individual arguments into their own pages. On argument pages, supporting evidence, quotes, studies, etc.. can be presented in support of an argument. This function appears intended to enable archiving of existing materials on a debate, largely in the form of quotations that provide support to an argument.
