Psiology is a term coined by Carroll Blue Nash, head of the Biology Department at St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, 1948. Apart from his work as a biologist, Nash prominently contributed to the parapsychological literature as an experimentalist and theorist. It was in his 1986 textbook - Parapsychology, the Science of Psiology - that he introduced this novel designation of the science; also referring to his research colleagues as "psiologists". Parapsychologists, to date, have adopted neither of these terms, and have opted, instead, for interdisciplinary definition of their research, e.g., as a branch of psychology, physiology and/or physics.
