Anil Gangal

Anil Digambar Gangal is an Indian Mathematician and theoretical physicist who is regarded as pioneer of a branch of Mathematics called Calculus on fractals or Fractal calculus. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and then worked in the area of theoretical high energy physics for some time while he was in Germany. After his post-doc, he returned to India and joined Physics Department of Pune University. Currently, he is a professor at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune.
Anil Gangal is also known for his work on the generalization of Nambu mechanics with geometrical approach with his student Sagar Pandit. The well known Weierstrass function which is continuous everywhere but differentiable nowhere was shown to be fractionally differentiable by him in 1996 after more than 100 years when Weierstrass first published it.
