Sonneta is an acoustic measurement software product from MintLeaf Software Inc. It provides audio recording and signal processing functions for voice and speech analysis. It also contains a database of normative values and literature citations. Sonneta's signal processing features can be compared with other software such as Praat. However, its graphical user interface is designed more for clinician users than for engineers — it is very focused on assessment tasks, without any scripting language or ability to get the intermediate processed signals. What makes Sonneta notable is its inclusion of what it calls a Norm Library. This library contains a large set of normative assessment distributions with citations to research literature. Thus, the software performs a knowledge transfer function to improve utilization of research results in clinical environments. As such, the tool promotes evidence-based practice. Moreover, the inclusion of this feature appears to be a new type of tool for consumers of normative data . Sonneta grew out of the SpeechClinic research project at the University of Toronto and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. This project was presented at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association 2008 Convention. The Sonneta beta software has also been used in other research studies. The software was released as a public beta on 31 October 2012.
