David Patrick Wilson (born February 26, 1949) is an American actor and director, probably best known for playing Superman in the 1975 TV musical special It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman an adaptation of the 1966 Broadway musical. Early life and education David was born and raised in New York City, to Scottish/Irish parents. He attended public schools in Northport, New York, on Long Island and graduated from Northport High School there in 1967. A scholar athlete, he forsook sports in his senior year to star in his school's production of "South Pacific," opposite future Hollywood actress/entertainer Patti Lupone. He then went on to attend Columbia University for two years before dropping out in the spring of 1969 to attend The Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre, where he studied with its founder, acting coach Sanford Meisner and his devoted disciple, William Esper at the William Esper Studio. Career A working actor for four decades, Wilson has appeared in many movies and TV series, including Season 2 of Magnum, P.I. (1982), the memorable lead role as star quarterback, Dorsey Bramlett, the 1983 cult film Eddie and the Cruisers and the role of Jason Ewing in Dallas: The Early Years in 1986. From 1986-89, David co-starred with Edward Asner in the highly acclaimed TV series, "The Bronx Zoo." Leaving Hollywood to raise his two youngest children in 1991, he moved back to New York to develop his writing skills, penning a number of screenplays and original stories. He stepped behind the camera in 2009 to write, produce, direct and star in the film Collar, where he also plays a police detective. The movie that co-starred his son who also produced the movie and financed by his wife was never distributed. Wilson claimed to be responsible for the success of the hit horror film 'The Blair Blair Witch Project,' claiming for decades the distributors stole his marketing plain which he was never able to prove. He was a partner in the failed marketing firm Film Rx. In 2000, Wilson was sued for nonsupport of a daughter born in Sweden.
