David michael close

David Michael Close was a Flight Sergeant in the British Royal Air Force, and an expert in radar systems in the Communications and Information Systems (CIS) group.
Close served for 37 years in the RAF, and subsequently 10 years with the Defence Co-ordinating Installation Design Authority (CIDA).
In his last tour as an RAF Flight Sergeant at RAF Brampton he filled an Officer's post managing a multi-million pound equipment support budget until his retirement from the RAF. During his time with CIDA he provided the foundation of evidence upon which all Defence CIS Installation Design Policy has been founded.
His RAF career included tours of duty at RAF Finningley, RAF Odiham, Bishopscourt, Cyprus, RAF Boulmer, RAF Saxa Vord, RAF North Luffenham and at HQ level within HQLC AC CIS at RAF Brampton.
His Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief awarded Close a rare and highly respected commendation, during his RAF posting to RAF Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland, for his improvement of radar timing correlation that provided a much greater resilience in the UK's ability to detect airborne threats coming from the Atlantic Ocean.
He also wrote and maintained Joint Service Publication 480, a complex document detailing MOD's CIS Installation Standards and Proceduresa work that has contributed strongly to security, resilience and safety of MOD operations around the world.
