Dr David Eager, an Australian, a Professional Engineer, an expert in Risk Management and Childhood Injury Prevention and an Engineering Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Eager is notable for his tireless volunteer work assisting Standards Australia writing safety Standards. For fifteen years he represented Engineers Australia, the peak Professional Engineering body in Australia on Technical Committees assisting Standards Australia with the drafting of numerous safety standards. He has been the Chairperson for several Standards Committees including: Children’s Playground Equipment and Surfacing CS-005, Trampolines CS-100, Contained Play Facilities ME-051-03, and Artificial Climbing Structures and Challenge Course Equipment SF-047. Eager assisted the NSW Government Department of Fair Trading with the drafting of the Portable Soccer Goal Regulation and the Trampoline Product Safety inquiry. Eager represents Australia on a number of ASTM International Safety Standards Committees including: ASTM F08 Sports Equipment and Facilities, ASTM F15 Consumer Products, and ASTM F24 Amusement Rides and Devices. He is also an invited observer on the European Standards Committee CEN/TG 136 SC 1 Children’s Playground Equipment. He is also an Honorary Playground Safety Adviser, Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Eager regularly conducts accredited playground safety training courses for Local Government Authorities and other organizations around Australia.
