Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research

The Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research is based at the University of Sussex, Brighton, England. It was founded in 1999.
The Centre was set up to complement and structure the large numbers of publications from Sussex academics relating to life history and life writing. It is housed in the Centre for Continuing Education at the Sussex Institute.
The Centre aims to highlight the University of Sussex's wide ranging programmes and experience in the area of life history and life writing research as well as developing new theories and adapting already present theories to fit new ideas and methodology.
The Centre also looks to establish links with similar Centres around the country and the world and seeks funding for events and research into life history and life writing. Affiliations
The University of Sussex Library houses the Mass-Observation Archive, a resource that the Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research benefits from. The Centre is currently involved in an international research project into autobiographic writing using the Mass-Observation Archive and aims to consolidate, develop and promote the research element of the Mass-Observation Archive.
The Centre is also affiliated with various organisations worldwide, such as The , the Panos Institute (a communications organisation that represents people in developing countries), the Australian HRC Biography Institute and Life Writing Research Unit as well as many more from a host of other countries including Brazil, China, USA as well as a number of European countries.
Publications There have been a large number of publications related to the Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research. A number of these are available online.
Teaching and Courses The Centre also offers various training courses such as an MA in Life History Research: Oral History and Life Story Documents and a MPhil/DPhil in Life History Research. A short course option is currently available called, Exploring Oral History: An interview training course.
Research and People There are many academics and students involved in the Centre for Life History and Life Writing Research, from the University of Sussex and from other institutions around the world.
The Centre often holds research conferences as well as working on research projects.
