David Cochrane (journalist)

David Cochrane is a Canadian political journalist. He is a senior reporter with ' Parliamentary bureau in Ottawa, Ontario. Formerally based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Cochrane was the provincial affairs reporter and hosted the political television program "On Point with David Cochrane" as well as "On Point Radio".
Education
He received his bachelor of arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1997 with a double major in English and History. While in university, Cochrane worked as the news editor for his student newspaper, The Muse.
Career
In 1998 he worked with Canadian University Press as the Ottawa Bureau Chief. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) took interest in Cochrane while he was writing columns for The Telegram, St. John's daily newspaper. His CBC career began as a summer job and became full-time employment.
He has described his role as a reporter as "part-gossip, part-detective." He has broken a number of stories about political happenings in the province. In early 2007, he gave an address to the St. John's Board of Trade that critiqued the habit of provincial politicians using the legislature to change the ground rules in various confrontations with industry and business.
