David Bertschi is a Canadian lawyer and politician. In 2012, he formed an exploratory committee in order to speak with Canadians across the country, gauge support, and consider a run for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. As of January 11 2013, David Bertschi is a registered candidate for the Liberal Party leadership race. Early life Bertschi was born in Sainte-Adèle, Quebec to a family of Swiss German immigrants. He graduated from Carleton University in 1980, receiving his law degree at the University of Windsor three years later. Bertschi ran for the first time in the 2011 Canadian federal election, as the Liberal Party's candidate in the riding of Ottawa—Orléans, but lost to his Conservative opponent by a margin of a few percentage points. Despite this loss, he still achieved the fifth highest amount of Liberal votes in the country and increased the party's popular vote from the previous election. In 2012, Bertschi formed a Grassroots Exploratory Committee in order speak to Canadians across the country and weigh his options for a leadership bid. According to the Saskatoon StarPhoenix, "If he decides to enter the race, he’ll then take positions on various issues". As part of his cross country conversation with Canadians, Bertschi has been speaking to community leaders and business stakeholders across Canada about how they together can "Restore the Canadian Advantage". This follows along with his belief that "the Liberals need business people and others to come to the party, rather than more “career politicians". Baiano has a pedigree behind him, working for both Democratic and Republican races in the United States. Electoral history 2011 Canadian federal election results for the riding of Ottawa—Orléans:
