David A. Lopez

David Alexander Lopez (born July 7, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nevada) is a Las Vegas politician, who represents the city's east side in ward 3 as a park commissioner. He previously served as a Nevada student senator during the 75th Nevada legislative session in 2008, representing Clark County district 10 from 2008-2009. Mr. Lopez is of Mexican and Colombian herritage.
Early Life
David Lopez was born in Las Vegas NV, and was raised by both his parents.
Lopez earned his high school degree from Valley High School in 2010, and received his BA in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
Career
David Lopez began his career in politics and public service when he was appointed to a student senator position in 2008, by former Nevada State Senator Bob Coffin, where he gained authority to introduce his own bill draft requests to the Nevada legislature. In 2011, Lopez served on a city recommending committee which oversaw $25,000 worth of local grants to be awarded to exemplary proposals brought forth by local elementary and high school students. In 2010, Lopez began an internship study course where he worked for former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman. In the fall of 2011, at the age of 18, David Lopez was appointed commissioner to represent the city's easternmost district as park commissioner by former Deputy Mayor Gary Reese. During his tenure, Lopez faced challenges with local homeless groups, grafitti concerns, as well as assisting the council and mayor's office make decisions pertaining to parks and recreation. David Lopez was also involved in the relocation of a controversial park project intended to recognize US veterans. Lopez has imersed himself into local and state politics representing various politicians and awarded his first official endorsement for Congressman Ruben Kihuen in 2016. Since his beginings, David Lopez has made it his primary effort to engage and invigorate local students to become more civicly and politically enagaged. He has been an advocate for an all inclusive community supporting local LGBT rights and local immigration activists. David Lopez is a regularly invited guest speaker at local middle schools through high schools across Las Vegas. He enjoys model building, supporter of police organizations, and loves creating minature models.
