Jose Angel Diaz

Jose Angel Diaz (born August 8, 1997), mainly known only as "Angel Diaz", is President of the Chicago District Association of Student Councils. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected to his presidential term in June of 2014.
Early Life
Angel Diaz attended James Shield Elementary School and graduated from Jose Clemente Orozco elementary school, and currently is a Senior at Curie High School, he was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, raised in two diverse parts of Chicago, Pilsen Community and Brighton Park community. His interest for politics started in the seventh grade, when he learned about the Illinois local government and federal government. A year later, Diaz would go on to join his school's (Orozco Academy) Student Government and start on his political work.
Political Work
After Diaz transition to Curie High School, Diaz started off as his homeroom's alternative Student Representative, he ran for the official Student Representative position, but lost by one vote. After serving his term, Diaz was appointed to serve on Curie High School Student Council Executive Board, as the Public Relations Committee Chairmen. Shortly after, Diaz was appointed to serve as a Board Member of an activist organization known as: Chicago Freedom School, which teaches youth about activism work. After serving his term as Curie's Public Relations Committee Chairmen, Diaz ran and served as Curie High School Vice President. In the same year, he co-founded and served as Vice President of the Chicago District Association of Student Councils (C.D.A.S.C.). After serving his term in 2014, Diaz ran for C.D.A.S.C President and now currently serves his term as President. Diaz also now serves as Curie's Local School Council: Student Representative, he was also appointed by the CEO of Chicago Public Schools (Dr. Barbara Byrd-Bennett) to serve on her first ever: CEO of CPS Student Advisory Council, in which he (and seventeen other members) advises the CEO of CPS on school policies and district concerns. On October 22, 2014, Angel Diaz was announced as the 2014-15 Honorary Student Board Member by the City of Chicago Board of Education.
Restorative Justice Practices Initiative
As a member of the CEO of Chicago Public Schools Student Advisory Council, Diaz worked on an initiative with Dr.Barbra Byrd-Bennett (CEO of Chicago Public Schools) to address the importance of restorative Justice Practices. With this initiative, Diaz worked with political leaders such as Chicago's Mayor: Rahm Emanuel, Illinois Governor: Pat Quinn and Cook County Commissioner: Jesus "Chuy" Garcia.
