Dave Scherer

Dave Scherer is the owner and head writer of the professional wrestling website PW Insider. Scherer started his site after having worked at , then owned by Bob Ryder and Joey Styles.
Career
Dave got his start in the wrestling industry writing for the newsletter Chairshots and through frequent postings, in RIME's pro wrestling conference and later on USENET's rec.sport.pro-wrestling newsgroup while working as a truck driver for Coca-Cola. When Chairshots ceased publication, Dave started The Wrestling Lariat, a print newsletter which eventually became a staple of his work on wrestling websites 1Wrestling and PWInsider.
Dave also had a run with WOW Magazine, which was the first American "smart" wrestling magazine, as well as a weekly column for The New York Daily News.
In early 2004, PWInsider was launched, taking its name from the Pro Wrestling Insider internet radio show that Buck Woodward co-hosts with Paul Belfi on the sportstalkCLEVELAND Internet broadcast service to this day. On July 21, 2008, Dave launched PWIPop, a new website dedicated to providing the latest stories and opinions on an entire range of pop culture issues.
In late 2005, Jonathan Coachman called out Dave during the Coachcast on WWE.com, due to Dave calling Coach a "bad announcer." Coach shot at Dave for a few weeks before the issue was dropped. Dave initially didn't want to respond, however due to the amount of emails sent to him about the situation, he eventually posted a response to Coach on PWInsider.
Dave also posted a column for the professional wrestling and Mixed martial Arts publication, Fighting Spirit magazine. He collaborated with Bob Ryder and Cynthia O'Neill in writing "World Championship Wrestling: The Ultimate Guide", released in 2000 by DK Publishing.
Dave was also a huge Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) fan, and used to sit in the bleachers and created a group called the bleacher bums, who were known for their creative chants. However, this is sometimes over-romanticized, as by 1997, Scherer and his group had left the bleacher area to sit on the stage area to watch the shows, so for much of ECW's existence, Scherer did not actually sit in the bleachers.
PWInsider Elite
Scherer launched PWInsider Elite in 2004 with premium content, for a fee, which mainly consists of opinion columns, polls, and opinion audio with recaps after WWE Monday Night Raw and pay-per-view events. The Elite site is also promoted as "ad free" and touted as an incentive for those that want to avoid the pop ups and ads on the free website.
Criticism over site content
In 2006 Scherer's credibility was criticized and called into question by Steve Corino who profanely lashed out at Scherer on his livejournal over a report Scherer had made stating that Corino was joining WWE to be a part of the newly relaunched ECW. To date Scherer has not made a rebuttal.
Dave's PWInsider has come under criticism from some wrestling fans due to the amount of advertisements and redirects on the website.
