Daniel Jones Muthunayagom is an Old Testament Scholar who was the past President of the scholarly Society for Biblical Studies in India, a Learned society, incorporating Biblical Scholars of the Protestant, Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Charismatic traditions. Muthunayagom had been teaching Old Testament at the United Theological College since 1994. The Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome in its 2001 annual issue of Bibliographic Index of Biblical Studies (Elenchus bibliographicus biblicus of Biblica) included Muthunayagom's article entitled The state in contemporary Indian scenario: a critique and response from the perspective of apocalyptic literature. As part of the University requirements he submitted his thesis entitled Universalism in Deutero Isaiah and its relevance to the mission of the Indian Church in the context of religious pluralism under the supervision of G. Wehemeir. From 1978, Muthunayagom took up Tamil Old Testament Common Language Programme of the Bible Society of India, Tamil Nadu Auxiliary as Translator and Coordinator for the Tamil Inter-Confessional Bible. In 1980 Muthunayagom returned to Bengaluru to undertake post-graduate studies in the discipline of Old Testament. By 1982, he submitted a post-graduate dissertation entitled The Kingship of God and Creation in the Old Testament. From 1982 he was Lecturer in Old Testament at the Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai. Muthunayagom later registered as a doctoral candidate with the South Asia Theological Research Institute, Bengaluru. During the course of his studies, he was sent to the University of Hamburg, Hamburg, the mecca for Old Testament Research and was supervised there by Klaus Koch. In 1992, the awarded the doctoral degree to Daniel Jones. Muthunayagom's doctoral dissertation was titled The relationship between election and Israel's attitude towards the nations in the book of Isaiah done under the supervision of Klaus Koch, Professor of Old Testament and History of Ancient and Near Eastern Religions, University of Hamburg, Hamburg.
