Craig Benjamin

Craig Benjamin is Associate Professor in the History Department and the Frederik Meijer Honors College at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), Allendale, Michigan, USA. Prior to taking up an academic career, he was a professional musician and educator for 25 years in Australian jazz. He studied ancient Central Asia history, big history, and world history historiography at Macquarie University in Sydney, where he also taught for several years. Upon gaining his Ph.D. in 2003, Benjamin moved to GVSU where he teaches big history, world history, ancient Eurasian history, and historiography to students at all levels. With co-authors Cynthia Brown and David Christian, he has just completed the manuscript of the first ever big history textbook for university students that will be published by McGraw-Hill in 2012. He is both member of the Executive Council of the World History Association and Treasurer of the International Big History Association.
