Career
Hughes attended Kickapoo High School where he made a name for himself on the base paths. Hughes was noted by many pro scouts threat once he got on base. In his senior season, he set the record for most stolen bases in a career. He also made headlines when he continued to play even though he had been diagnosed with a torn right rotator cuff. Due to this, he was used more as a DH and pinch runner. During his career at Kickapoo, he played all three outfield positions as well as second base. He finished a strong senior season with a .343 batting average, 7 home runs, and 37 stolen bases. Hughes contemplated attending Missouri State University to play baseball, but instead went to the draft. He is ranked as the Rockies' 28th best prospect, and is projected to start the season with the Rockies' affiliate Tri-City Dust Devils.
