Conscious Leadership

Conscious Leadership
The subject of conscious leadership was first discussed by businessman-turned-futurist John Renesch in the late 1980s. It developed while Renesch was in conversations about new paradigms for business with Professor Michael Ray, then with Stanford School of Business.
Ray subsequently published an anthology called The New Paradigm in Business: Emerging Strategies for Leadership and Organizational Change (1993) and Renesch complied a collection he entitled Leadership for New Era: Visionary Approaches to the Biggest Crisis of Our Time (1994). Warren Bennis, James Autry, , , , and other experts in leadership were invited to explore the transformational, consciousness-changing role of leadership and their words were featured in these two books.
Since then, a number of additional people have begun working on this marrying of higher states of consciousness with the traditional role of leaders in today's world. Another pioneer in conscious leadership was James N. Farr (1918-2000) who began teaching several generations of executives and managers that, in order to lead others, they must first understand and be able to lead themselves. He pioneered the application of conscious leadership and wrote about it in his 1998 book, Supra-Conscious Leadership: New Thinking for a New World.
In 2009, the Conscious Leadership Forum was started by Diana Chapman, Jim Dethmer and Kaley Warner Klemp as a membership-based organization and introduced the "" - a powerful list of aspirations they ask their members to agree to.
In May 2012, in the UK, the Global Institute for Conscious Leadership was formed by two women - Dr. Sarah A. Morris and Gina Hayden. Their goal is to create "the ‘tipping point’ in Conscious Capitalism and how we do business worldwide by developing leaders who are moving from a predominantly ego-full toward an evermore ego-less way of doing business."
