A cinematic book trailer is a short video or film used for the promotion of books. Cinematic book trailers utilize actors, high-quality footage, and an array of original content. Cinematic book trailers are different from traditional book trailers, which feature mainly still-images and text and have been criticized as being overtly cheesy, and “terrible”.
Relatively new as a promotional tool in the industry, cinematic book trailers are growing in popularity, and are increasingly becoming the norm for publishers, and authors. Cinematic book trailers can be found primarily online, through popular social media platforms such as Youtube and Vimeo. HatchettBookGroup’s popular, cinematic book trailer for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” written by Seth Grahame-Smith, has over 2 million views on Youtube and counting . In 2012 the book was adapted into a film.
