ChipGold is a gold ingot vacuum-sealed in a package in the shape of a credit card. It is meant to be used as a tangible and liquid investment in gold bullion. The packaging assures the consumer/investor that the gold within is of stated purity and weight. Typically, weights available are 1g, 2.5g, 5 g, 10g, and 20g, 1/4 Ounce, 1/2 Ounce, 1 Ounce and the purity is .9999 (at least 99.99% pure gold). Manufacturers In Europe, ChipGold is available from Goldas, a large jeweler and retailer (Chain Stores) worldwide. In North America, Halach Gold Inc., founded by the Istanbul Gold Refinery, has a line of trademarked ChipGold called GOLDGRAM which are sold through distributors. The wafers (ingots) can also be procured through auction sites (eBay). Goldas uses many security features in the packaging of their ChipGold products, including a small hologram, a logo visible only under UV light, a tracking number, the bar's serial number, and a barcode. In an exchange transaction, these security features help certify that the vacuum sealed gold wafer matches its description on the card, contrary to a potentially counterfeit gold coin or counterfeit gold wafer. This is in contrast to a decrease in trust of, and opposing an increasing supply of paper currencies. In Europe, the product is available in certain retail stores. Other manufacturers of gold bars, including Pamp Suisse, offer similar products.
