Cheadle Bleachworks

Cheadle Bleachworks was a chemical manufactory in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, UK. It was originally owned by Thor Chemicals and produced Sodium Hypochlorite bleaching agents for use in the dye industry in Manchester at the time. It was closed down in the 1980s.

Location
The works is located to the left of the sliproad where the M60 Clockwise meets the Kingsway Southbound. The chimney is visible, but most of the buildings are hidden by overgrowth.

Special Significance
Until recently, the old chemical factory ruins were used as a stage-ground for practising Parkour and have been featured in many forums as an example of urban 'art'.

Housing
In April 2008, the site conversion to apartments was completed. The old buildings were demolished but the chimney remains as part of the new housing complex.
