Overview ChartJackers is a collaborative project between four YouTube celebrities (charlieissocoollike - probably the most well-known of the four, Jimmy0010, Nerimon and JohnnyDurham19). The aim is to hijack the UK Singles Chart to raise money for Children In Need, which is a yearly charity event organised and broadcast by the BBC to raise money for children's charities in the UK and around the world. The project will end on 20th November 2009 when Children In Need is televised. Aim The aim of the project is to harness the power of the internet to raise as much money as possible for the BBC's Children In Need charity appeal. This will be done by releasing a single close to the date of the event, which the organisers hope will reach number 1 in the UK Singles Chart. The ChartJackers themselves will not write, perform or contribute musically to the single in any way. They will instead oversee the project and ask people to contribute the lyrics and melody for the song. They will also ask people to audition for the band. History ChartJackers was announced on 5 September 2009 via YouTube. TV Coverage This project is being covered on BBC Switch which is aimed at teenagers. The coverage will include video blogs and five minute episodes made by Hat Trick Productions broadcast on BBC Two and on Twitter. Jonathan Davenport, Head of Digital at Hat Trick Productions summarises the project as "ChartJackers is a guerilla, inside-out take on the talent show format exemplified by The X Factor which pits four YouTube vloggers against the music industry as they try to bag a crowd-sourced number one single for Children in Need. "At heart, this is about four likeable lads attempting to achieve the extraordinary through the power of the internet. The BBC Switch audience will not only find their journey exhilarating, they may be inspired to help make the song and its chart placement a reality whilst helping to raise funds for a great cause like Children in Need." Episodes Week 1 12th September 2009 This episode introduces the project and the guys. The ChartJackers introduce the task of producing a song that tops the UK Singles Chart to raise money for the charity Children in Need. The group calls upon the viewers to send in lyrics to be compiled into the final song. Week 2 19th September 2009 In this episode, the ChartJackers are invited to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London where opera singer Robert Murray sings some of the lyrics submitted by fans of the series in an 'operatic way'. The ChartJackers next enlisted the help of Indie singer Iain Beggs from the band 'Red Skyes' who brings the lyrics to life in a different style. Later, the group are advised by pop star Chesney Hawkes who is best known for having a hit with The One and Only in 1991. When he was interviewed on the programme, Hawkes said: "I think you guys are on the right track and I think you've got every experience between you guys to actually pull it off. "In fact, I wanna come and see you, see how you're doing in a couple of months." Week 3 26th September 2009 Melodies Week In this episode, the ChartJackers split up into two teams to allow them to interview a different music personality to get advice on the melody for the song.
