Carmelo Afuang (born January 2, 1989 in Parañaque City) is a collegiate basketball player from the Philippines. He is currently playing for the UST Growling Tigers men's basketball team in the UAAP. UST Growling Tigers Rookie season Afuang joined the in 2008. Afuang played limited minutes with the Tigers and finished with averages of 0.4 points per game and 0.6 rebounds per game. Second season In his second season, Afuang gained more minutes for the Tigers and became a part of the team rotation. The Tigers finished the season 6-8 and made it to the Final Four, but were defeated by the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the Final Four 64-81. Afuang finished the season averaging 3.2 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game. Third season In his third season, Afuang had his best season with the Tigers averaging 8.4 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. It was in this season when Afuang scored UAAP career high 19 points in 77-81 loss against the De La Salle Green Archers. Unfortunately, the inexperienced Tigers failed to return to the Final Four and finished 7th in the standings at 4-10 ahead of the UP Fighting Maroons. Fourth season In his fourth season, Afuang finished with averages of 5.9 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 44% from the field. Together with Jeric Fortuna, Jeric Teng, Chris Camus and rookies Karim Abdul and Kevin Ferrer, the Tigers finished the season in 4th place with a 8-6 record and returned to the Final Four. Unfortunately, the Tigers were knocked out by the Ateneo Blue Eagles to advance to the Finals 66-69. Final season In his final season with the Tigers, Afuang is currently averaging 2.2 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game and 0.8 assists per game.
