Carla Astin (born 1. November 1983 in Cape Town, South Africa) is an African model. Astin began modeling in the fashion industry in her early teens after winning a 1997 South African nationwide model search hosted by Dolly magazine and Impulse fragrances. Early life and family Astin was born in Cape Town, but raised in Sommerset West, a small rural town. She has two younger and two older siblings. During her childhood, Astin "raced motorbikes and spent time with animals on her grandmother's farm." She describes her early life in the South African countryside as "very grounding ... there wasn't any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing. You could just be you." Her family moved to Cape Town to allow Astin and her siblings to experience city life. Career Once in Paris, in 2003, Astin signed with the Madison Agency. Back in South Africa, multitude of runway appearances and then signed with Next model agency in early 2004. From there, she was booked for runway and print campaigns.
