The Campaign to Cut Waste is an initiative brought into action with an executive order signed by President Obama on June 13, 2011 as an effort to eliminate waste in government spending. The initiative establishes a new oversight and accountability board to help all federal agencies improve performance and reduce waste and corruption. The recent Recovery Act’s use of transparency to increase accountability and prevent fraud was seen as a success. Therefore the goal of this initiative is to expand this transparency to a level where at taxpayers know where their money goes.<ref name=Whitehouse/> The Board will have eleven members and will work closely with the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board to achieve the mutual goals of cleaning the government. The Executive Order also strengthens accountability, directing members to report results directly to the Vice President.<ref name=Whitehouse/> One of the campaign’s first steps is targeting duplication and waste among federal websites. There are almost 2,000 separate websites in use across the Government.<ref name=Whitehouse/>
