Brian Matthew Barnett (born March 31, 1980) is an American professional wrestler, former professional baseball player, businessman, entrepreneur, and political activist. He has made appearances for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Asistencia Asesoría y Administración and World Wrestling Federation under the ring name Tyson Tyler. Baseball career Barnett was drafted by the Seattle Mariners after graduating from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. He opted to attend college where he played in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League, was an NCAA All American in 2001. In 2002 Barnett signed with the Los Angles Angels of Anaheim after his junior year of college. Originally drafted as a catcher, the Angels converted him to pitcher in spring training of 2002. Barnett was assigned to the Mesa Angels where the the organization taught him the biomechanics of pitching. After only two months, Barnett was promoted to the Angels short season A in Provo Utah. In his first appearance Barnett recorded one scoreless inning, striking out future star Prince Fielder, and topped out at 96 mph. As Barnett was warming up to make his second appearance, he suffered a torn ligament on his pitching hand which subsequently ended his 2002 season. The next 5 seasons Barnett was plagued with injuries and played in the San Diego Padres organization, for San Antonio Colts in the independent Texas League, Yuma Scorpions, Niagara Stars of the Canadian Baseball League, and ended his career with the Cincinnati Reds after being released in spring training of 2007. Professional wrestling career In September 2008 Barnett was approached by World Wrestling Entertainment and flown to Stamford, Connecticut for a tryout. After returning to Phoenix he starting training with former WWE Superstars Johnny Stamboli and Derrick Neikirk. For the next few years preforming under the name Tyson Tyler, Barnett worked internationally with tours of Mexico, Europe, and Japan. At the same time Barnett made appearances at live and televised events for World Wrestling Entertainment, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and Asistencia Asesoría y Administración. While preforming in the U.S. on the independent circuit Barnett had notable feuds with Derrick Neikirk, Bill DeMott, Billy Gunn, Willie Mack, Al Katrazz, Chuck Palumbo, and Johnny Stamboli. In 2012 Barnett formed The Network, a tag team with Stamboli that featured finishing maneuver the G.F.Y. Footage of The Network delivering the G.F.Y., and working with Robocop went viral on YouTube. Barnett participated in the first invited NXT 3 day tryout at Summerslam 2013 in Los Angeles. Barnett is the only active wrestler that has that played for an MLB organization. Promoting and production career In February 2010 Barnett founded Elite Xtreme Wrestling (EXW) with Derrick Neikirk. From 2010 -2011 Barnett booked and produced 34 live events, including arena venues Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, and Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott, Arizona. In 2011 Barnett went on to collaborate with Las Vegas based Future Stars of Wrestling (FSW) which resulted in the largest southwestern wrestling territory in 20 years. From 2011-13 Barnett produced over 70 live events, including FSW Adrenaline Rush a weekly TV program filmed at the famous Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix. Adrenaline Rush aired in the Phoenix and Las Vegas markets on Saturday nights at 11pm for 60 consecutive weeks, with replays airing on the Go Fight Live Network. In early 2013 Barnett collaborated the United Wrestling Network based in Hollywood to produce Championship Wrestling From Arizona on the syndicated Mav TV. During this time Barnett built his own venue in Scottsdale, Arizona where he produced 40 live events and content for the Championship Wrestling From Arizona TV show. In May 2013 Barnett produced 3 IPPV events and booked his first international event in Hermosillo, Mexico. In March 2014, Barnett founded International Wrestling Federation] (IWF) which first three shows featuring Drew Galloway, Young Bucks, Apollo Crews, Shelton Benjamin were met with critical acclaim. Barnett has won four Phoenix New Times Best of Phoenix awards. Charity work and political activism Barnett has worked with, and raised funds for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Phoenix Boys & Girls Clubs, Phoenix Animal and Dog rescues, and federal program Shape up U.S. As of 2015 Barnett was appointed to Scottsdale City Council.
