Cristian Guerrero

Cristian Merffin Paulino Guerrero (born July 12, 1980) is a Dominican professional baseball right fielder, currently a free agent. He is 6'6" feet tall. Guerrero, the cousin of big-league superstar Vladimir, spent the last four seasons with the Gary SouthShore RailCats, where he owns both the career and single-season franchise records for home runs. He hit .294 with 12 home runs and 82 RBI last year in a notoriously pitcher-friendly home ballpark. On June 9, 2010, Guerrero made baseball history when he hit five home runs in five consecutive plate appearances in a doubleheader against Rockford. The feat drew national headlines and the interest of many baseball historians, who noted it had only been done twice before in professional baseball and never at the major-league level.
The native Dominican began his career in 1998 at age 17 in the Milwaukee Brewers system. Since then he has had time with the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels and Washington Nationals organizations before joining the independent ranks in 2007. He is a career .274 hitter with 156 home runs and 697 RBI.
Affiliated minor leagues
Guerrero was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1997. He began his career with their Dominican Summer League affiliate in 1998, then joined the Ogden Raptors in 1999. He was rated among the top 10 prospects in the Brewers farm system for three years by Baseball America, and was a Pioneer League All-Star in 1999 and 2000.
He continued to play in the Brewers system until 2003, when he joined the Seattle Mariners organization in midseason. 2004 also saw him changing organizations in midseason, this time to the Anaheim Angels in 2004. From 2005-07, he played in the Washington Nationals organization, splitting 2007 between the Columbus Clippers and Harrisburg Senators before being released.
Overall, Guerrero has played in over 460 games at Double-A and above, including most of the 2002-07 seasons.
Independent leagues
After leaving the Nationals, Guerrero joined the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. In 43 games for the Riversharks, he hit .290 with seven homers and 23 runs driven in.
In 2008, Guerrero signed with the RailCats, then members of the Northern League. That season, Guerrero finished fourth in the league with his 16 home runs, breaking Jermaine Swinton’s six-year-old club record on August 27, 2008 with a shot off Schaumburg Flyers Alex Rollin at U. S. Steel Yard. Guerrero also ranked 15th the league with a .312 batting average, drove in a career-high 63 runs and stole 15 bases. In the postseason, Guerrero’s .345 average was second on the team and he hit a pair of home runs to lead the RailCats to a 7-6 win in Game One of the Northern League Championship Series against Kansas City T-Bones.
Through the 2010 season, the slugging outfielder has hit .272 and has 139 home runs from 928 career minor league games.
On March 15, 2011, it was announced that he signed a contract with the Pennsylvania Road Warriors. On April 14, 2011 it was announced that he would be playing for the RailCats.

Guerrero makes his offseason home in Bani, Dominican Republic. As of March 2008 he is engaged to American author Valerie Renee' Campbell.
