Blue Republican

Blue Republicans is a term applied to U.S. voters that are of “liberal sensibilities” (of the traditional Left right paradigm) and plan to vote in the 2012 United States Republican Party primaries for Ron Paul for president. The term was created by Robin Koerner on June 7, 2011 in his article “If You Love Peace, Become a "Blue Republican" (Just for a Year)” published on The Huffington Post. The term and growing movement addresses those who had supported and voted in 2008 for Barack Obama with the belief that he would “give use back our civil liberties, stop killing people in foreign lands” and “end the War on Drugs, bring transparency to the government, post bills online, close Guantánamo Bay”.
History and usage
The phrase "Blue Republican" quickly spread after the term appeared in Robin Koerner’s article. Five days after his original article coining the term, he published a follow-up article on the terms popularity: “"Blue Republicans": an Idea Whose Time Has Come”. The article was shared on the popular social-network Facebook more than 11,00 times by the time the second article was published. There is also a Facebook group “Blue Republican” created after the term.
