Bernhoff (Bernie) Dahl (born November 3, 1938 in Hackensack, New Jersey) is a motivational speaker and writer currently residing in Winterport, Maine. He is a physician by profession, an experienced mountain climber, and entrepreneur in the Maine business community. Early Life and Education Bernhoff Dahl was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, November 3, 1938, the son of a Norwegian whaler and businessman. Although interested in many subjects as a teen he eventually settled on chemistry. He graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1960, with a major in chemistry and a minor in Bible. Having decided on the medical profession, Dahl went on to receive an M.D. from Cornell University in 1964, and completed his internship (rotating) and residency in pathology at the University of Vermont in 1969. Career After serving as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1971 he was chosen as the chief of pathology at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine, where he co-founded Dahl-Chase Pathology Associates. After twenty-five years of "in the trenches" group medical practice and consulting, he took early retirement at the age of fifty-seven. Presently Bernhoff is involved in motivational speaking, various writing projects and international travel. Since 1974 Bernhoff has been involved in commercial and industrial real estate in Eastern Maine per Freedom Group USA. Published Works Dahl's 1982 The Pig-Out Diet, co-authored by David Fingard and published by the Bacon Printing Co., sold 16,000 copies. The group claimed 1,000 members as of 1994, and attracted 19 people to its 1993 International Congress in Moscow. In 1999, Dahl was found covered in snow and ice on Mount Washington in New Hampshire, "lucky to be alive" in dangerous circumstances. Following the incident, "in interviews with the press, Dahl attributed his misadventure to stupidity". In 2000, Dahl was approached by Pioneer Productions about a possible reenactment of his ordeal on Mt. Washington. He agreed, and the reenactment was broadcast on The Learning Channel in 2000 as part of the show, StormForce.
