M.G. Edwards

Michael Gene Edwards (born 03 November 1970), pen name M.G. Edwards, is an American novelist best known for the personal travel memoir Kilimanjaro: One Man's Quest to Go Over the Hill. He writes books and stories in the fantasy, thriller and travel adventure genres. He graduated in 1994 with degrees in international studies, political science, history, and German from the University of Idaho and earned his master’s degree in China Studies in 1996 as well as a Master in Business Administration in 2003 from the University of Washington. After working in the private sector for eight years, Edwards joined the U.S. Department of State in 2004 and served as an American diplomat until resigning in 2011 to write full time. His overseas assignments included the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, South Korea; the U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay; and the U.S. Embassy in Lusaka, Zambia. He lives with his wife Jing and son Alex in Bangkok, Thailand.
In May 2011, Edwards published Alexander the Salamander, a children's book he co-wrote with his son Alex, and in November 2011, he published Real Dreams: Thirty Years of Short Stories, a collection of 15 short stories from different genres written between 1981 and 2011. His book Kilimanjaro: One Man's Quest to Go Over the Hill, released in March 2012, focuses on his quest to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.

Awards and honors
As a diplomat, Edwards was recipient of numerous State Department awards, the Joint Civilian Service Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, and a commendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay.
