Benedict Cumberbatch Must Die is a comedy play written by Abby Howells. It will have its world premiere at BATS Theatre, Wellington, New Zealand on June 19, 2014. The play's main focus is the characters' obsession to actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The play, intended to be a "love letter" to the actor, also tackles pop culture, loneliness, sharing fears and desires, the struggle of the creative process, and friendship. Cast *Caitlin McNaughton as Clarissa, an aspiring actor who has written a one-woman show to perform for Benedict Cumberbatch *Kate Schrader as Tamara, a flighty Cumberbatch fanatic obessed with celebrity culture *Abby Howells as Genevieve, a fangirl who stays in her room writing fan fiction Development The idea for the play came about when Howells, Schrader and McNaughton discovered that they share a “deep passion” for actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
