Ben Whyte (born June 13, 1992 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory) is a junior cricket player from Alice Springs. He currently represents the West Cricket Club at an U/17 level, occasionally also playing A-Grade or B-Grade. His highest score is 82, made against the Memo Rovers Cricket Club in the second round of the ASCA 2008/09 season. Playing Style Whyte is a solid, left-handed, opening batsman, whose first priority is to see off the opening bowlers, before attacking the weaker bowlers once settled. This method has worked remarkably well for him, as evidenced by the amount of half-centuries he has scored, and his overall exceptional average. He is a left-arm orthodox bowler, who often bowls around the wicket, attempting to spin the ball away from the right-handed batsman. 2008/09 Season The 2008/09 season has proven to be Whyte's most successful season to date. He began the season in great fashion, scoring an unbeaten 23 in A-Grade against the Federal Demons Cricket Club, and followed up that breakthrough with his highest score, a monumental 82 against the Memo Rovers Cricket Club. His form has been remarkably consistent since, scoring a further two half-centuries, both against Memo Rovers, latter including 5 sixes. His run-scoring feats have propelled him to the top of the West Cricket Club overall run-scoring table, the top of the ASCA U/17 run-scoring table and the lead of the 2008/09 ASCA Junior Cricketer of the Year.
