Before I Go to Sleep is a novel by S J Watson, to be released in Spring 2011 in the United Kingdom. It is a psychological thriller about a woman suffering from amnesia. She wakes every day with no knowledge of who she is and the novel follows her as she tries to reconstruct her memories from a journal she has been keeping. Publication The novel has been the subject of intense interest in the publishing world. Eleven UK publishers fought to acquire the rights to Before I Go to Sleep, which eventually went to Transworld/Doubleday for an undisclosed sum. The UK interest in the novel led to a major offer from HarperCollins to publish the book in the United States, who are rumoured to have paid $1 000 000 for the rights. . Deals have also been done in Canada (HarperCollins), Australia (Text) and in France, the Netherlands, Brazil and Poland, all for significant sums. There is serious interest in turning the novel into a film. Plot The novel follows Christine, a writer who is incapable of maintaining memories for more than a day. She learns that she has been seeing a doctor who is helping her to recover her memory, and has also been writing a journal through which she pieces together her past. What she discovers sets her on a terrifying journey of discovery.
