Barratt Family

The Barratt Family
The Barratt Family was the first family of High Wycombe from 1984 to 1985, headed by Betty Barratt. Mrs Barratt was mayor at the time and went on to become Chairman of Buckinghamshire council a few years later. The main family consisted of Betty & Jim who lived at School Close on a roundabout. Betty achieved a lot in her time as Mayor of High Wycombe and is regarded by many as one of the most successful mayors of all time.
Mayor
Betty became mayor in 1984 and achieved a lot during her term in office. She opened many new buildings and helped improve the health service. She also helped create more housing projects in the outer suburbs of Wycombe. The Barratt family was very active during her time. They all contributed much to the town of Wycombe.
Portrait
Her portrait hangs in the main hall of High Wycombe council. There is another portrait that is located in the south of England. This portrait is set to be restored. The portrait is of Betty In her mayors robes sitting in the mayors office in High Wycombe.
After Politics
Betty herself today up until 2008 is still highly involved with activities within the council and still sits in the chamber once in a while, though recently she has been unwell. The family has sometimes been regarded as crazy as Betty is known for not being able to stay in a room on her own for over ten minutes without having someone to chat to.
