Bangladeshpontha (, from Bengali words Bangladesh and pontha ) is a political term that gained prominence in the post-revolution Bangladeshi politics. No correct translation has been found for the term. The term is generally understood to be the policy of putting the national interests of Bangladesh over all. One who follows Bangladeshpontha is called a Bangladeshponthi (). A variation of this concept is Bangladesh First, which is also used as a slogan. Adviser to the interim government Mahfuj Alam argued in a Facebook post that a "Bangladeshponthi" must have to be a "Muktijuddhoponthi" () and cannot reject the Independence War in context of Indian expansionism, which will be "treasonous". On 8 February 2025, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haq Nur claimed that some people are putting the country in danger being India's slave, being Pakistan's, being pro-US, being pro-China and must have to be a "Bangladeshponthi" party to do politics in Bangladesh. Similar arguments were also made later by the National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam on 28 February, who said in a speech that there would be no place for pro-India or pro-Pakistan politics in the country. In the context of foreign policy, US Diplomat Jon Danilowicz recommended Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus for pursuing a "Bangladesh First" policy in reaction to the America First policy of Donald Trump following his victory in 2024 United States presidential election. Organisations National Citizen Party use the term to describe their ideology. Party's chief organiser (northern) Sarjis Alam described centrism and "Bangladeshpontha" as the "most important term" in their party. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) also advocate for Bangladesh First policy. In popular culture On the Victory Day of 16 December 2024, BNP organised a concert named "Bangladesh First", whose organisers claimed it's goal is to promote local culture over foreign culture.
