Associated Students of the University of Hawaii

The Associated Students of the University of Hawaiʻi (ASUH) is the undergraduate student government representing all full-time, classified, undergraduate students at the . ASUH was chartered by the Board of Regents in 1912 and is now in its 95th year of serving and representing students. ASUH strives to serve students by advocating on their behalf with various entities, including the university administration, faculty, staff, community groups and government officials. ASUH also serves students by utilizing ASUH student fee money to fund diversified student programs and events on-campus.

Leadership (School and Community)
In April 2006, Grant Teichman was re-elected President of the ASUH during Spring 2006 elections. Previously, Rachel Bolante ('93 & '94), Chuck Norwood ('76 &'77)
held consecutive back-to-back terms in office.

ASUH executive officers have moved on to become state elected officials.
The Honorable Scott Nishimoto (President '96), Jon Karamatsu (Vice President '97),
K. Mark Takai (President '89), Silva (Chang) Luke (President '88), Carl Takamura (President '65) have all been elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives.

David Ige (Secretary '78) was elected to Hawaii State Senate.

Winston Sakurai (Secretary '92) was elected to the Board of Education.

Donna Tanoue (Secretary '75) is the former chairperson of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Washington, D.C.

Simeon Acoba (Vice President '64) was appointed to the Hawaii State Supreme Court. Nelson Doi (President '44) was appoint a Circuit Court Judge and later was elected Lt. Governor. Edward Towse (President '28) was appointed chief justice of the Territorial Supreme Court. Other judicial appointees include, Walter Chuck (President '40), Barry Rubin (President '49) and Linda Luke (President '70).

ASUH executive officers have also been appointed to other state offices. Capsun Poe (Secretary '99) became the first ASUH executive officer to be appointed as the student member on the UH Board of Regents. Previously, Scott Leithead (Vice President '69) and Daniel Ishii (President '75) was appoint to the Board of Regents, but not as the student regent. Michael Dahilig (President '02) is the current student regent. Kristopher Kaupalolo (Vice President '01) was appointed to the Hawaii State Post-Secondary Education Commission.

Organization
The Associated Students of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa is separated to maximize students ability to participate in different levels of student leadership.

The ASUH constitution establishes 3 major area, the executive officers consists of four officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.

The Senate, which is presided over by the President, consists of the four officers, and at-most 4 at-large senators and 30 college senators, as well as non-voting University advisors.

The Student Court, which is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, consists of 7 members.
