Assaf Abu Rahhal

Assaf Abu (or Abou) Rahhal (18 December 1955 - 3 August 2010) was a leading Lebanese journalist killed by the Israeli Defence Forces during the 2010 Israel-Lebanon border clash,

His colleague Ali Shoaib or Chouaib of Al-Manar television was injured in the same or a similar incident about the same time.

The killing was deplored in strong terms by Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, who said “I am deeply concerned about the circumstances in which Assaf Abu Rahal was killed and his colleague Ali Shoaib injured ... I would further underline that freedom of expression, a fundamental human right, implies the possibility of exercising this right in safety. Armed forces are obligated to respect it"
