Aoife Burke

Aoife Burke (born 9 May 1982) is an Irish journalist, writer, and author of science fiction and children's literature.
Early life and education
Burke was born in Galway, Ireland on 9 May 1982, and attended the Garvey School of Speech and Drama. At the age of 7, she won a Community Games art competition, and had the opportunity to display her artwork to Eamon Casey, the Bishop of Galway at the time. At age 15, she won a poetry competition titled "Care Life", through which her work was published in the local paper and placed in the West of Ireland's digital archives.<ref name=":7" />
In 2014, Burke earned a Higher Certificate in Applied Social Studies in Social Care from the Athlone Institute of Technology. In August 2023, she received a degree in English and journalism,<ref name=":7" /> and began a Master of Arts at the University of Glasgow in September 2024.
Career
As a journalist, Burke was the runner-up in Ireland in the 2020 EU Sakharov Student Journalist Competition.<ref name=":7" />
In 2020, Burke independently published her debut novel, Luminess: The Island of the Moon, as well as Daydream of a Writer, which was re-released as an audiobook in 2023. In March 2022, Luminessl was awarded the "Distinguished Favorite for Science Fiction" at the Independent Press Awards in New York. She later published two children's picture books: Thumble Thistle the Bee (2022) and Cyril the Squirrel (2023).<ref name=":7" />
Awards and recognition
While at university, Burke participating in a radio show called Trivia Matter, for which she received a silver award from the Community Radio Forum of Ireland.<ref name=":7" />
