Anita Rios

Anita Rios (born 1944) is an American politician and activist from Ohio. A Green, Rios has run for office several times, including for Lieutenant Governor in 2006 and 2010 as well as for Governor in 2014. An initial poll gave Rios 4% of the vote statewide against Republican incumbent John Kasich and Democrat Ed FitzGerald. Rios qualified for the 2014 general election ballot after winning the Green Party primary as a write-in candidate after more than 500 voters wrote in Rios for Governor in the May primary.
Rios is the Ohio President of the National Organization for Women. Rios serves on the board of the Green Institute.
Personal
Rios was born, raised and resides in Toledo, Ohio. She is the daughter of Mexican American farm workers and Spanish is her first language. Rios has been married to Robert Hannon, co-founder of the Toledo City Bike Co-Op since 1982. She graduated from the University of Toledo in 1986.
