Andrew Mattock

Andrew Mattock (born 25 May 1968 in Devizes, United Kingdom) is an Australian/British visual artist whose work seeks to challenge contemporary social issues through historical context.
Visual artist
Mattock’s images are a mash-up of different media, sleazy fiction, naked wrestling posters, comics about war, ‘New Idea’ and washing up adverts.
Splashed on to board using a freehand, sloppy technique, his painting style reinforces the authenticity of the human dimension of life in an era of mechanical reproductions and plastic perfection.
Mattock currently lives and works in St Kilda, Victoria and exhibits in Australia.
He grew up in Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. After leaving school at 16, he spent 14 years working in his family’s logistics company and seven years racing cars in national and regional Formula Ford Car racing series. He studied ceramics for several years before starting to produce works using enamels and spray paints.
He met his Australian-born wife while living in London and moved to Australia in 2005, becoming an Australian citizen in 2010.
Supporting Manchester City
Mattock is a rabid Manchester City supporter, sleeping regularly in his favoured Georgi Kinkladze replica shirt. He maintains his fitness levels by playing in goal for a local side in Melbourne, when not attending trivia nights at the College Lawn in Prahran.
