Kelvin Wright

Kelvin Leonard Wright was born in Greymouth, New Zealand in 1959. Wright's racing debut began with an ad hoc entry into the International Car Rally being held in New Zealand in 1978. Wright became famous around the world for entering the race track with his 1978 Ford Falcon Utility and finished ahead of 12 rally cars. Typically Wright's actions would have resulted in punishment, but Wright avoided scorn by performing so well in the race that commentators from all television, print, and radio media (Christchurch Press, etc.) were endeared to Wright's efforts and success despite his car being far inferior to the rally cars in the race.
Wright furthered his reknown after moving to Canada and playing professional hockey in Vancouver in 1980, and then in the United States where he continued auto racing with victories on both oval, straight, and road course tracks. Wright currently is semi-retired and living in southwestern Missouri, but continues to be an auto racing enthusiast and race participant from time to time.
