Andrew Dakich (born May 10, 1994) is a college basketball player for where he is playing his senior season for the .
Early life
Dakich was born in Bloomington, Indiana to Jackie and Dan Dakich on May 10, 1994. He played high school basketball at Zionsville Community High School under coach Shaun Busick. As a junior (2011-12), he averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. As a senior (2012-13), he averaged 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. He also played AAU basketball for Indiana Elite, along with Michigan teammate Mark Donnel, under coach and father, Dan.
College
Dakich started his career as a walk on for the Wolverines. As a freshman, he came off the bench in 12 games, averaging 2 minutes per game. He scored his first career points on a three-point field goal against on December 7. He was a valued member of Michigan's scout team as the Wolverines advanced to the before losing to . As a sophomore he came off the bench in 13 games, averaging 5.3 minutes per game. He initially requested to redshirt, but sacrificed the opportunity to help an injury-riddled team. The same situation took place his junior year, when injuries piled up once again. During his junior year, he came off the bench in 24 games, averaging 4.6 minutes per game. He posted career highs of four points and three assists against on December 12. As a senior, he was put on scholarship for winter semester, learning the news in a video which featured two University of Michigan police officers telling Dakich he was in trouble before giving him the good news, which eventually went viral.
Personal life
Dakich is enrolled in the School of Kinesiology at Michigan, and is a Health & Fitness major. Dakich's father, Dan, is a sportscaster for ESPN. Dakich has previously changed his jersey number from 5 to 11 to honor his father. Recently he has started a podcast with fellow team member Duncan Robinson called "The Dak and Dunc Show", available on iTunes and SoundCloud.
