Andres Harris - Architect
Chilean-born architect has worked in different fields of architecture and his expertise embrace a broad spectrum that go from teaching and lecturing to built architectures.
Born in Santiago de Chile in 1980, he did his primary and secondary school at Trewhela's English School and sub-sequentially finished his Highschool both in Maryland and Camp Hill Highschool in Pennsylvania, USA; where he graduated in the year 1997.
Soon after graduating as an architect at Finis Terrae University in 2005, in Santiago, Chile, and doing his internship at Del Fierro - Carmona - Vilches Arquitectos, he started teaching at the same architecture school at the time he worked as a designer and 3D-modelling artist at a Chilean-based company called Boximage .
After working a year-and-a-half in Chile he decided to move to London to pursue a Master in Emergent Technologies + Design, at the Architectual Association in 2006, for which he received the support of the Chilean Govermentand the Chilean President, Michelle Bachellet, who awarded him a full scholarship in acknowledge to his outstanding academic achievements.
During his year at the Architectrual Association he collaborated with his tutor and course director Mike Weinstock in a couple of publications and started teaching Media courses.
He also participated in the development of a shelter in the Chilean Patagonia (Termas de Quitralco) along with other fellow students from the AA under the guidance of Michael Hensel, tutor at the Architectural Association, and Juan Subercaseaux, Chilean-born Designer, who also teaches at the Architectural Association in London. The shelter was the first intervention of the Architectural Association in Chile and its ingenious design based on the principles of ruled surfaces allowed the whole structure to be built in just 5 days.
Andres developed an interesting and innovative thesis about Viscous Materials and bone-tisuue biomimetics along with Onur Ozkaya, a Turkish-born interior designer.
The thesis was a contribution to Frei Otto's investigation of viscous materials and how they can be used in architecture and engeneering.
His thesis was highly recognized and Andres was invited to exhibit his work at the Architectural Association. His work was recognized in Asia where he ended up among the 10 finalists of the FEIDAD Awards in 2007
Right before finishing his Academic studies at the Architectural Association, he joined Foster + Partners,the most important architecture firm at that time run by the British architect Lord Norman Foster , where he has worked since 2007.
Andres has developed various interesting and innovative projects under Foster + Partners, which range from an office building done in collaboration with the French architect Jean Nouvel to urban design.
Andres' work and research has been published in London under AD Wyley, as well as XXI in Turkey, the Chilean architecture magazine V+D, and China; and he became the first Finis Terrae University-graduated atchitect to both work at Foster+Partners in London and teach at the Architectural Association.
