Ananya Soni is an Indian-Australian beauty queen, actress, author and humanitarian. A beauty pageant titleholder, Ananya currently holds the title of Miss India Australia International 2015. She has also been Miss World Australia 2015 National Finalist, New South Wales State Top 10 and Multimedia Runner-Up. Early life Ananya was born in India and her family migrated to Sydney, Australia when she was 3 years old. She cites her parents and brother for influencing her greatly. After high-school Ananya was awarded a place to study Undergraduate Medicine (MBBS) at the University of Newcastle, Australia. During medical school she founded a group named ASPIRE to promote international rights and equality, and was involved in many University events and co-curricular activities. She was also awarded many scholarships at university, including the John Flynn Placement Program. She also facilitated medical student conferences and was able to meet the Governor of Tasmania in that capacity. Career Modeling and Pageantry She has been featured in catwalks, magazines and photo shoots around the world. Miss India Australia International 2015 - Title Holder Ananya’s mum sent her photos for Miss India Australia International without her knowledge. She was unanimously declared the winner and crowned at the Official Ceremony in Sydney, Australia on October 30th 2015. She scored first place in 4 of the 5 sub-sections in the pageant. Miss World Australia 2015 - Runner Up (Multimedia), State NSW Top 10 Ananya’s friends had downloaded her photos from her social media and applied for Miss World Australia on her behalf. She was voted by many pageant bloggers as the most likely contestant to win the Miss World Australia 2015 pageant and the ‘face to watch’. She garnered a lot of local and international media support during the pageant. Many have cited political interferences leading to the final controversial results. Eventually, Ananya placed top 10 in her state of New South Wales, and placed as Miss World Australia 2015 Top 5 Multimedia and Runner-Up. Film She is trained in classical and contemporary dance disciplines. She has acted in numerous plays and has studied at NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Art, in Sydney. She was Juliet in the Burwood Community production of Romeo and Juliet. She had a starring role in the recent film UNindian starring Australian cricketer, Brett Lee. Author Ananya has a passion for writing, inherited from her mother, a Librarian. She launched her own book ‘15 Poems to Change the World’ in August 2015. It is a collection of fifteen poems interwoven with the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals to be achieved by 2015. A portion of the proceeds from this book will go directly to the ‘Indigenous Literacy Foundation’. She has also written and contributed to international publications and online platforms in regards to health and wellness, like Mind Body Green. Humanitarian Work Whilst focused on her career, Ananya also aids in community service. During her reign she is using her platform to support numerous philanthropic organisations. She has raised thousands of dollars for charities in Australia, notably Variety the Children’s Charity. She is currently an ambassador for the Bully Zero Australia Foundation and a White Ribbon Advocate. In 2009, she founded her own NGO, The Vitamin Project. Aimed to deliver vitamins to in-need populations.
