Akai CD3000XL

The Akai CD3000XL is a professional digital sampler launched by Akai in late 1996. It supports stereo or mono sampling at frequencies of 22khz, 44.1khz, and 48khz, with a resolution of 16 bits. It comes as standard with 8MB of built-in RAM, expandable to 48MB with a combination of 72-pin SIMMs and internal flash memory.
The CD3000XL shares with the earlier Akai CD3000 a built-in, four-speed CD-ROM drive, in addition to a 3.5" floppy drive that reads Akai-formatted floppies, and a SCSI port that allows for connection to external storage devices. Whereas the CD3000 could only sample from its internal CD-ROM drive the CD3000XL adds support for sampling from a pair of 1/4" balanced audio inputs and a pair of RCA-style SPDIF I/O ports. For audio output the CD3000XL has eight unbalanced 1/4" audio jacks in addition to a standard stereo pair.
The CD3000XL can be upgraded internally with the Akai EB16 Effects Board, which adds four channels of multi-effects, including reverb and chorus. It can also be upgraded with the IB-304F filter board, which adds a second 12db/octave resonant digital filter and the ability to record stereo audio to an internal hard drive. The CD3000XL also supports internal playback of SMF Standard MIDI Files. It can be connected to a standard desktop PC with SCSI, which allows the use of Akai's MESA software to edit samples on the CD3000XL.
In common with contemporary Akai units such as the Akai S3000XL and S3000, the CD3000XL can automatically loop samples and perform offline time-stretching and resampling.
