Ahmad Shamal
Ahmad Shamal (Kurdish: ئهØمهد شهماڵ) was born in 1923 in Slemani, Kurdistan, also know as (Ahey Xule Sneiy). He studied in an Islamic school but had to interrupt his studies in order to work as an itinerant to support his family. He began to practice his art in 1953 and met with increasing success. He sang with the great Kurdish singers such as Mihemmed Mamli, Ali Merdan et Hassan Zirek. He was considered a great singer and a great Kurdish patriot. He died prematurely in 1997, never having overcome the physical privations which he had suffered during the first part of his life.
