Aer Lingus Flight 485

Aer Lingus Flight 485 was a scheduled Airbus A320 passenger flight which was forced to make an emergency landing due to a medical emergency following a passenger turning violent whilst on board on 18 October 2015, en route from Lisbon Portela Airport in Portugal to Dublin Airport in Ireland.
It was reported that a 24 year old man on board flight 485 became violent during the flight after he reportedly bit another passenger. The man was then restrained by crew onboard the flight and it is understood that the man later began to feel unwell. The crew declared a medical emergency and the aircraft was subsequently diverted to Cork Airport It is also understood that their was a qualified doctor on board Flight 485 who was able to assist the crew in giving the passenger medical attention. Flight 485 landed safely at Cork Airport at 17:40 local time however it is understood that the unwell passenger had died shortly before landing and his body was removed from the aircraft upon arrival in Cork. The passenger that was bitten was also taken to hospital.
A woman who is believed to have been accompanying the deceased passenger was arrested by police however it is not known whether this is in connection to death of the other passenger or another incident. All 174 people on board the flight were taken for police questioning following the incident. A post mortem examination is being carried out to try and establish the cause of the death.
