Controversies
Yelp ban
In the summer of 2008 Adryenn Ashley, along with other members of a Silicon Valley women's networking group, has been banned from the site Yelp because according to Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman the networkers had a "you review me, I review you" arrangement, which violated the site's terms. While she admitted she had written reviews for businesses she was doing consulting, according to her that wasn't an explicit violation in Yelp's terms of service.
Adryenn Ashley responded to the ban creating the sites Yelp-Sucks.com and YelpLawsuit.com, asking people "yanked by Yelp" to sign up for a class-action suit, which however would be "an extremely hard case to win" according to law professor Rebecca Tushnet, in part because of the Communications Decency Act.<ref name="Anya Kamenetz"/>
As of 2013, she herself admitted she doesn't know of anyone who can prove they've been extorted by Yelp.<ref name="Sandra Allen"/>
