AcuEnergetics is a contemporary healing modality based on ancient principles of energy flow through the human body. It was developed by Kevin Farrow, informed by his understandings of the principles behind many ancient medical practices, including Chinese Energy Medicine, Indian Medicine and Kabbalah. Practitioners use a controlled energy resonance through the hands and fingers to access and encourage the flow of energy throughout the body’s energy centers, organs and meridians, without needles or other instruments. AcuEnergetics shares many similarities with other energetic modalities such as Acupuncture and Qi gong, but their emphasis on mental and emotional aspects of illness is a point of diversion. To the AcuEnergetic practitioner, disease results from imbalances in the body’s energetic anatomy. Patterns of worry, anger, frustration and guilt, for example, manifest physically as illness due to their effect of blocking the natural flow of energy present in the body. Stress and negative emotional states are therefore seen to profoundly impact the individual on a physical level and must be addressed as part of treatment. Restoring ‘flow’ to energetic channels is essential for restoring function - a core principle of AcuEnergetic treatment. Practitioners facilitate this movement through the hands during a session, however meditation, breathing and cultivating a positive outlook are all encouraged in order to re-establish the healthy flow through meridians and energy centres. Treatment sessions AcuEnergetics treatments are underscored by the philosophy; ‘restore flow, restore function’. To the AcuEnergetics practitioner, all disease and disharmony in the body can be attributed to blockages in energy centers, organs and lines of energy (meridians). AcuEnergetics utilizes maps of the body’s energetic anatomy and physiology, informed by Empirical knowledge and texts, to access this energy at various locations. The practitioner employs controlled energy resonance to treat the client, positioning their hands over various energy centers and meridian points to reinstate flow. Clients are either seated or laying down with the practitioner moving from point to point close to, but not usually touching, the surface of the body. Sometimes, light contact will be made with a finger or palm. Once the proper movement of energy has been reinstated, the body’s own healing mechanisms are seen to remedy the ailment. Treatments last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. History and Development Kevin Farrow began to ‘feel’ human energy fields in 1973 at 19 years of age, and was prompted to seek further validation of his experience in scholarly texts and literature. However, after his research revealed no such definitive practical resource, he decided to map the energetic system himself, publishing ‘The Psychology of the Body’ after 30 years of practice and study, in 2007. Farrow left Australia at age 23, traveling to India to pursue his passion and satisfy his curiosity about the body, energetic healing and meditation. He went on to spend four of the next ten years there, consolidating and building upon knowledge that would inform the eventual development of his own healing modality - AcuEnergetics. Influences AcuEnergetics has been informed and influenced by a diverse array of teachings, with Farrow having practiced various massage modalities, Buddhist and Taoist Healing, Meditation and Qi Gong, Tibetan Tantra practices, Shiatsu through to Aromatherapy and Herbalism. Other influences range from ancient to modern medicine and include ancient Greek, Jewish and Egyptian texts, Traditional Chinese and Japanese Medicine and modern anatomical concepts. Via the study of the above philosophies, Farrow claims not to have ‘created’ AcuEnergetics, but ‘unearthed’ it. He describes it as a modality that not only existed once before, but is also supported by time-honoured Empirical tradition. Limited sources support these assertions. Application and health benefits Based on its underlying principle that all illness stems from imbalances in bodily energy flow, any disease or condition could conceivably be within its scope of treatment. AcuEnergetics practitioners claim it is particularly effective for chronic muscle and joint pain, emotional disturbances, and as an adjunct to various Allopathic therapies (such as chemotherapy and radiation). It is seen as an extremely safe treatment option as there is nothing being physically administered to the patient. It is therefore not contraindicated with other forms of medical intervention, pharmaceuticals or behavioural therapies. Acuenergetics School Founded in 2000, the AcuEnergetics School is located in Sydney, Australia. Trainings in this modality are run in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. In Europe courses are run in the UK, Italy and Holland. Introductory courses are also run in India. Courses are offered ranging from short introductory weekends, to comprehensive practitioner education, training and examinations. The higher-level practitioner courses are currently only taught in Sydney and Holland.
